1796 MAJANI’S BIRTH
Everything started in Bologna’s city center, right next to the central Piazza Maggiore square, in a small “Laboratorio di Cose Dolci” (= “Laboratory of Sweet Things”). Here the two brothers, Francesco and Romualdo Majani, got hired by the then-owner of the shop and soon became the only bosses and developers of the business.
1832 INVENTION OF THE MAJANI SCORZA From Majani family’s creativity and passion for innovation comes the first solid-shaped chocolate produced in Italy. Named after its similarity to a tree bark, the "Scorza" is produced with a specially designed machine and becomes a legendary product, still unique today…
1878 MAJANI OFFICIAL SUPPLIER OF THE REAL HOUSE - In 1878 Majani became official supplier of the House of Savoy, receiving the permission to decorate its store sign with the royal coat of arms, still present in the current logo.
1911 MAJANI CREMINO FIAT IS BORN The true wonder of Majani house is born: the Cremino FIAT. FIAT announced a competiton to celebrate the release of the new FIAT Tipo 4 model, and Majani won with its amazing 4-layer cremino, overcoming all other chocolatiers from Turin.
1950 THE “DOLCE VITA” IN BOLOGNA After the Second World War, the workshop is forced to temporarily return to the old headquarters, but soon Caffé Majani in via Indipendenza, focus of good chocolate culture, becomes the theatre of the "dolce vita bolognese".
2017 MAJANI YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW Today Majani realizes its chocolate masterpieces still following traditional production methods and old recipes, passed on by the family from generation to generation, that still delight Italians palates.
CIOCCOLATA SCORZA (THE BARK)
Dark crumbly chocolate cocoa 60%.
Scorza is the first chocolate in solid form created in Italy in 1832. In fact, since the Mayan civilization in 400-600 AD, chocolate was consumed only as a beverage.
Scorza is made by carefully blending different types of cocoa beans and “rolling” a thin layer of chocolate on itself. The name “Scorza” was given at the time of its creation because of its resemblance to the bark of oak trees: wrinkled and irregular.
Over the years we have added new flavours, to provide an ever richer and more amazing experience!
And last but not at all least, you can now taste the Scorza as a spreadable dark chocolate!
TORTELLINO
Tortellino, the undisputed symbol of Bolognese cuisine, typically eaten by the spoonful in a hot broth, is transformed into a delicacy that confirms the magical gastronomic art of our city.
According to the legend, the first tortellino was born from the imagination of an innkeeper who, peeking through the keyhole at a beautiful woman who was a guest at his inn, saw her navel and was inspired to create the unique shape of the tortellino, now a symbol of Bologna all around the world. Over the years we have expanded the range of flavors and now offer it in four variations: milk, dark, white and pistachio.
This chocolate combines quality and tradition, bringing a piece of Bolognese history to the palate in a sweet and irresistible form.
SAVOIA TOWER
The Savoia collection is named after the Italian Royal House of Savoy, of which we became official suppliers in 1878, and whose stem is still part of our logo today. This collection, dedicated to simplicity, celebrates the purity of the finest ingredients.
The products in the Savoia line are made with a base of gianduja chocolate and toasted whole Italian hazelnuts, proving that simple things are often the best. Each creation encapsulates the tradition and quality that binds us to real history, offering a unique and refined taste experience.
